Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoon Shortening
  • ¾ cup Warm water
  • 1 cup Honey for serving

Instructions 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add warm water, mixing until the dough comes together.
  4. On a floured surface, knead the dough until smooth, about 5 minutes.
  5. Roll out the dough to ⅛ inch thickness and cut into 3-inch squares.
  6. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Fry the squares in hot oil until golden brown and puffed, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  8. Drain on paper towels and serve warm with honey.
